Scripts for video #3 must be completed before  7:00 am tomorrow to receive full credit on the final film.

People with final films complete will be expected to complete the 3rd exercise.

All videos require a pre-approved script to receive full credit on the resulting video. This will be strictly adhered to on video #3. All video #3 scripts are passed due. One final review of script #3 will take place after 7am on Saturday.

Hi Gang!
Lots of missing pieces for Walking. 

• If you have no walking video grade, you have everything I need to grade it. I just haven't completed that yet.
• If you have an "I" and half the points, you are probably missing the evaluation or you only completed some of the evaluation.

• If you have a zero, you did not turn in the video and evaluation into the walking turn-in folder.

Walking Editing Continues

As a group we will watching the color correction tutorial and applying this to the Walking video. This should be used on any footage that seems to be dark or discolored.

Use the information from the audio workshop to add the following items to your Walking video:

• Foley
• Music
• Room Tone

Continue editing the Walking film. This week you should also be using the Picture in Picture tutorial on your own to add PIP into the Walking video.

The final grading of the Horror/Comedy/Action rough draft will start on Friday of this week. A complete rough draft is required to earn full credit for the resulting film.

Horror Comedy Action Scripts

• The new script must be shared with editing rights for Mrs. Rice. You can restrict other people people, if you so chose.
• It must be place in the turn -in folder for Horror Comedy Action Scripts. It will be reviewed for content approval. 
• If you are placing to begin filming this weekend, please email me. I will review those scripts first.

A 2 day audio workshop will take place Thursday and Friday of this week. There will be work time available on both days to continue writing your scripts.

Start thinking about the next project Comedy/Horror/Action.  If you get your script started you can start filming this weekend.  In other words, everyone will be filming outside of class from now on.  Think about the story, where is the location, who are your actors, what time of day, do you need to check out a camera?

Genres in general...

genre 

A genre is a specific type of music, film, or writing. Your favorite literary genre might be science fiction, and your favorite film genre might be horror flicks about cheerleaders. Go figure.

In music, genre refers to musical style such as jazz, salsa or rock. In film or literature, the genre is determined by the subject, setting or plot of the story. When you are wandering around a book store, books are usually arranged by genre. Many genres, such as "mystery" or "fantasy," overlap in film and literature, while others, such as "romantic comedy" in film or "historical fiction" in books, are specific to one or the other.

Our choices...

Action-

Action (Disaster): Stories whose central struggle plays out mainly through a clash of physical forces.

Horror
Horror: Stories whose central struggle focuses on escaping from and eventually defeating a Monster (either human or non-human).

Comedy
Comedy: Stories whose central struggle causes hilarious results.

Start right away. You have 20 minutes.

The LHS library has access to two free music and sound libraries. These are royalty free and can be use in your films.

This is our intro video to have to get some experience, work some kinks and in the beginning... just play and learn.  We have looked at some basics for this video.  We will learn more advanced techniques for the next video.

Exercises!

-You are required to create 3 "shorts" based on a tutorial technique of your choice.  
-These shorts must include a title, 30 seconds or more of footage that demonstrates the tutorial (except the production logo).  It is concluded by credits that include credits information such as camera man, editor, music credits, the link to the tutorial, actors, etc.
-The technique should be used in your video(s) in some manner.
-This is something that you should figuring out this coming week.  The first exercise should be completed next week, so it can be used in the Walking video.   

-Find a tutorial that is interesting or something you would like to use to create your production logo.

The next step with the Production Logo is to get it ready for the actual exercise film. We will learn how to do this today.

Titles ans Credits

Individual scripts are graded. Check Skyward for the grade.

Today we will learn how to make titles and rolling credits.

Midweek

There were 2 sets of headphones left out after our class yesterday. One of these sets was broken and had to be thrown away. These need to be put away everyday. Once the headphone are all broken, they will not be replaced. If they are left out, other people will break them.

• Continue filming as needed.
• Begin cutting and organizing your footage in Premiere Pro CS6
• Update scripts as needed. I am in the process of grading the rough draft version. It is highly recommended that you reorganize the order of the script to produce a more original film.

Individual Scripts Continued

We need footage on everyone's computer now!

Next please place your Individual Script into Google Drive Video Arts Share Folder. I emailed the link to everyone. We will be turning most everything into this folder.

The Walking script format is required for each script. If you did not use it, you will only get half credit for all work associated with that script including the film itself. Please update your script to include the proper format today.

During the second half of class, continue to work on the script. I will be grading the rough drafts throughout the week. If you did not share it with me, you currently have a zero. If there was missing information, you currently have an incomplete for the individual script grade.

Filming can be done this week. Hopefully everyone is healthy again.

I added notes to your scripts and graded them all. You will have 30 minutes to complete the rough draft of your script. Stay focused and hit your marks.

We will be talking about how to use the camera and other equipment.

What are the filming rules?

Getting it Togther

-The test will take place Friday (tomorrow)!!!  Yay! Ask questions, and use the blog to help you study.

Things to included in your script...

-Use the assignment guidelines I gave you last week.  You will need 40 -3 to 5 second shots.  
-Use camera and shot abbreviations in your script.  Your assignment has some examples of what your scene descriptions should look like.
-Add the point of view of the camera in relation to the actor or subject.
-This group script will be used to help the crew get the needed shots. 
-I must have editing right to your scripts.
-Please title you script as follows:

Looking ahead:

• We will be learning to use the cameras and tripods.
• How to capture the shot.
• Once the shots are completed, everyone will reorganize the script to their specifications, creating a personal script.

Day 3

Vocabulary

We will finish up the vocabulary with 2 short videos about composition.

We will be looking at the requirements for the Walking video. You will then get together with your group to talk about the film. Who will be the actor(s)? Who will film? Who is the director? Will you need props?

As a group, you will have one person save the script file to their google drive. That person will then share this doc with the rest of the team. Work together with the project guidelines to plan shots using the language/abbreviates we learn about yesterday. Remember that you will film and act together, but that each of you will be creating you own final film. With that said everyone should include that shots that they want in the shared script. After filming you will individually decide what you are keeping and discarding for your personal Walking film.

This is a great option for your 3rd tutorial, and for your final movie with the time we have left.

Remember to get your equipment turned in by next Monday.  If the equipment is not returned, you will be place on obligation for the cost of replacing the missing equipment.

Final Film

Two weeks and a few days...

• the genre films are past due. If you have not turned it in, your grade will reflect that it is missing.
• the final film of the term is due by June 1st for seniors and June 2nd for everyone else.
• I would love to have a film festival day, but that means that everyone has completed and turned in the films before June 1st.
• Anyone who finishes their films early will be working on exercise #3. This is either a tutorial of your choice or a cinemagraph.

McMillan Library Special Event

Please share this with your video group and especially those interested in filmmaking as a hobby or career.  The Library is also installing a video studio which will be done soon, and may be another outlet for students who may want to continue with video in their future.

Script Writing

Walking Scripts
I will be starting grade the individual Walking scripts starting Wednesday. I looking for evidence that you altered this individual script to suit your film. Scripts much like the original will receive 50 points out of 100 points.

Genre Scripts
The rough draft for this script must be placed in the Google Drive folder by Friday. I am looking the story at this point. Transitions, music, sound effects and other things do not have to be in the script at this time. Create a teaser paragraph and script out your action. It could be in blocks of information to help organize your plans.

The make-up quiz will take place on Thursday at the beginning of the hour. Make sure you study.
